John O. McDougall

As a founding partner of our law firm, John O. McDougall hosts over 40 years of experience practicing law in South Carolina. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1971, and was admitted to the South Carolina Bar Association in the same year. In addition to his work with McDougall Self Currence McLeod, he is also a member of the American Trial Lawyers Association, the American Bar Association, and the South Carolina Association for Justice.

John O. McDougall is the second lawyer to be president of the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association and the South Carolina Bar Association within the history of the two organizations. His concentration is in family and matrimonial law. John O. McDougall has been nominated as one of the Best Lawyers in America by Woodward/White, Inc. since 1991.

Michael W. Self

Michael W. Self is a partner at McDougall Self Currence McLeod. He graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1985, and was admitted to the South Carolina Bar Association in the same year. In addition to his work as a member of the family law section of the South Carolina Bar Association, he is also vice president of the South Carolina Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. Michael W. Self completed the South Carolina Certification Training for Mediation in 1994.

His practice is in the areas of family and domestic law in South Carolina. Michael W. Self is an experienced mediator at our law firm who also happens to be on the Board of Directors at Palmetto Legal Services. Michael W. Self was named one of South Carolina's Super Lawyers in 2009 and 2010. He received a distinguished honor from Martindale-Hubbell in 2017 for being Peer Rated for High Professional Achievement.

Peter G. Currence

As a partner at McDougall Self Currence McLeod, Peter G. Currence earned his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1996 and was admitted to the South Carolina Bar Association in the same year. Peter G. Currence was admitted to the U.S. District Court of South Carolina in 1997.

In addition to his work at McDougall Self Currence McLeod, Peter G, Currence is also a member of the ABA Family Law Trial Advocacy Institute and the Richland County Bar. He received a distinguished honor in 2017 by Martindale-Hubbell for being Peer Rated for High Professional Achievement. Peter G. Currence is a member of the family law section of the South Carolina Bar Association.

Ryan A. McLeod

Ryan A. McLeod is a partner at McDougall Self Currence McLeod. He earned his Juris Doctor from Mercer University in 1998 and was admitted to the South Carolina Bar Association in the same year. Ryan A. McLeod is a member of the family law section of the South Carolina Association for Justice and the South Carolina Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.

He was recognized in 2005 as one of Strathmore's Who's Who. Ryan A. McLeod is a native South Carolina resident. He is also a member of the Sumter and Richland Counties Bar Associations. His area of practice is concentrated in family law.

Alyssa H. Richardson

Alyssa H. Richardson is a partner at McDougall Self Currence McLeod. She earned an undergraduate degree from Appalachian State University and earned her Juris Doctorate degree from Elon University School of Law. Since being admitted to the South Carolina Bar, Ms. Richardson has limited her practice to family court and domestic litigation. She is a member of the Lexington County and Richland County Bars; but practices in family courts throughout South Carolina. She is a certified Guardian ad Litem and a graduate of the National Family Law Trial Institute.

R. Jason Hall

R. Jason Hall

R. Jason Hall is an attorney at McDougall Self Currence McLeod. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina and earned his Juris Doctorate degree from Florida Coastal School of Law. Since being admitted to the South Carolina Bar, Jason has focused his practice primarily in family court and domestic litigation. He is also experienced in representing clients in Criminal Defense matters and representing creditors in the Court of Common Pleas and United States Bankruptcy Courts. Jason is a member of the Lexington County and Richland County Bars (serving as President of the Lexington County Bar Association in 2010), the United States District Court, and the United States Bankruptcy Court; and he practices in family courts throughout South Carolina. Jason is also a member of the Florida Bar.

Adam Pickworth

Adam Pickworth

Adam Pickworth is an associate attorney at McDougall, Self, Currence & McLeod. He earned his undergraduate degree in Finance & Real Estate from the University of South Carolina and earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law. Since being admitted to the South Carolina Bar, Adam has limited his practice to family court and domestic litigation. He is a member of the Richland County Bar Association, the Lexington County Bar Association, and the South Carolina Association for Justice. Adam practices family law throughout the state of South Carolina.

Joseph McDougall

Joseph McDougall

Joseph McDougall serves as an associate attorney at McDougall, Self, Currence & McLeod, where his diverse educational and professional background significantly enhances his legal practice. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from Furman University and later earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina Law School.

Admitted to the Bar in November 2023, Joseph brings a broad practice focus to the firm, covering Sports, Entertainment, Contracts, Business, Family Law, Appellate Law, Legal Research, and Writing. His unique perspective as a former collegiate athlete and his involvement in the music industry provide him with valuable insights into the legal challenges unique to these areas.
